Four Golden Wolves Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Honors

 

The 2024 baseball season for Alvernia University was memorable, as four players were honored with All-MAC Commonwealth awards. The Middle Atlantic Conference gives these honors to recognize the top performers in the league. The announcement on May 13 highlighted the achievements of Mike Ramundo, Nick Ferraioli, Jason Kelly, and Bobby Hansen.

 

All-MAC Commonwealth honors are significant because they highlight the best players in the conference for their exceptional performances throughout the season. Having four players selected for Alvernia University shows the team’s skill and hard work. The recognition includes first and second-team honors, showcasing players who have excelled in their positions and contributed significantly to their team's success.

Mike Ramundo

Senior Mike Ramundo had an outstanding season, becoming a key player for Alvernia University. Known for his consistent performance, Ramundo topped the conference charts with a .458 batting average, the highest in the MAC Commonwealth. He also led in several other categories, including hits (77), doubles (22), and triples (6). His impressive stats included a .511 on-base percentage and a .679 slugging percentage, culminating in a remarkable 1.190 OPS (on-base plus slugging)​.

 

Ramundo's excellent performance on the field made him popular among betting circles, where his consistent stats attracted attention. Kelly drove in 42 runs, the fourth-highest in the conference, and led with seven sacrifice flies. He boasted a .387 batting average with 53 hits, including 11 doubles and two home runs. His overall OPS was an impressive 1.003​.

 

Kelly's contributions were not limited to batting. On the mound, he pitched 44.1 innings with a 2.84 ERA, the second-best in the conference. He allowed 16 earned runs, struck out 33 batters, and held opponents to a .218 batting average. His standout moment came in the MAC Commonwealth Championship series against Messiah, where he threw a complete game, allowing only two runs on four hits, leading Alvernia to a 7-2 victory​.

Nick Ferraioli

Sophomore Nick Ferraioli made a significant impact, earning his first All-MAC Commonwealth selection as a pitcher. He finished the season with a 2.86 ERA, the third-best in the conference. Ferraioli recorded 57 strikeouts over 69.1 innings, showcasing his ability to dominate on the mound. His 7-0 record in 13 starts underscored his reliability, and he posted a 1.40 WHIP.

 

Ferraioli’s performance was crucial for the Golden Wolves, as he led the team in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. His ability to maintain control and limit opponents' batting averages to .267 was a testament to his skill and composure under pressure​.

Bobby Hansen

Sophomore Bobby Hansen earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a shortstop. Hansen recorded 26 hits, including ten doubles, and drove 21 RBIs. His on-base plus slugging percentage was .780, reflecting his balanced offensive contribution​.

 

Defensively, Hansen was a rock at shortstop with 41 putouts and 66 assists in 118 chances, participating in seven double plays. His .907 fielding percentage highlighted his reliability and effectiveness in the infield.

Alvernia’s Championship Run

Ramundo, Kelly, Ferraioli, and Hansen's performances were instrumental in Alvernia’s successful season. The Golden Wolves captured their fourth MAC Commonwealth title, their second in the last six seasons. 

 

Their 2-1 victory in the best-of-three series against Messiah University showcased the team’s depth and resilience, with Kelly's standout pitching performance clinching the championship.
