Independence Day in Philadelphia isn’t just a single-day event.
Instead, Philly indulges in a weeks-long celebration of America — entitled Wawa Welcome America — culminating on the Fourth of July.
But before June departs, the biggest parties on the weekend before the holiday hit the city, highlighted by a pre-Fourth fireworks show along the Delaware River waterfront.
Punctuating Independence Weekend activities across the city are the United States Army Band’s “Pershing’s Own” Concert + Fireworks on the night of Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Come down to the riverfront for the century-old band’s free star-spangled all-star concert at Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest at 8 p.m. and stick around for the thrilling fireworks show over the river at 9:30 p.m., shot up right there from the festival site.
But the festival is just one of many prime fireworks viewing spots along the Delaware and throughout Old City. Catch the spectacular display by a riverfront attraction, at the end of a pier, in a hotel room with a view, along a pedestrian bridge or with a picnic at a grassy park.
(Please note: The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is currently closed due to construction for the coming-soon Park at Penn’s Landing I-95 CAP Park.)
