PHILADELPHIA, Pa., May 10, 2024— The JDRF One Dream Gala, which took place at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel on Saturday, April 27, raised nearly $1.4 million to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.
Organized by the JDRF Greater Delaware Valley Chapter, the JDRF One Dream Gala, one of the area’s premier charity events, welcomed over 400 esteemed guests, uniting for a noble cause: to spearhead vital funding for groundbreaking T1D research. Hosted by Karen Rogers of 6abc Action News, this black-tie event featured exciting silent and live auctions, cocktails and dining, live entertainment by the Heartbeats, and JDRF’s signature Fund A Cure program—in which contributions are 100% tax-deductible and directly support JDRF’s mission.
“Once again, our community, local leaders, and businesses have rallied together to raise money and support for important type 1 diabetes research, and we are very thankful,” said Lindsay Fortese, Executive Director of JDRF Greater Delaware Valley Chapter. “Every dollar raised will help lighten the burden for millions of Americans with type 1 diabetes and help us realize our vision of a world without T1D.”
The prestigious Living and Giving Award was presented to three generations of the Cohn family, consisting of Suzanne and Norman Cohn, Lea and Matthew Cohn, Sydney Cohn, and Mackenzie Skylar Cohn, for their exceptional and long-standing commitment to the T1D community. Over the past 16 years, the Cohn family, as a whole, has made a monumental impact on T1D research and continues to inspire countless others to join them in this fight.

About T1D
T1D is an autoimmune disease that causes the pancreas to make very little insulin or none at all, leading to long-term complications which can include highs and lows in blood sugar; damage in the kidneys, eyes, nerves, and heart; and even death if left untreated. It is one of the fastest-growing chronic health conditions. Many believe T1D is only diagnosed in childhood and early puberty, but diagnosis in adulthood is on the rise and accounts for nearly 50% of all T1D diagnoses. The onset is sudden and nothing can be done to prevent it yet—it is not related to diet or lifestyle. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. There is currently no cure for T1D.
