Gloucester City Property Taxes Rose by 6.8 Percent in 2023; 2nd Highest Increase in Camden County

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (May 9, 2024)(CNBNews)--New Jersey's radio station (NJ1015.com) released an article today on the high cost of health insurance in the State. The headline, "Insane co-pay that forced one New Jersey patient to skip the *procedure."

The same article includes the 2023 property tax for every community in the state. 

The list below is for Camden County. As you read the property taxes for each of the 37 communities, you'll find that residents in Tavistock saw a 27.4 percent increase in their tax bills. Coming in second with the highest property tax increase was the City of Gloucester City, with a rate increase of 6.8 percent.

There are 564 municipalities in the state of NJ. The residents of Gloucester City are among the poorest--only 31 communities qualify to be ABBOTT districts.  Additionally, due to their economic situation, Gloucester City also qualifies as an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) - one of only 32 in the state. As of 2022, 11.6% of Gloucester City residents had an income below the poverty level, which was 16.6% higher than the poverty level of 9.7% across the entire state, according to www.city-data.com.
