Five From Rowan Named to ABCA All-Region First Team

 

GREENSBORO, NC – Rowan’s Tyler Cannon, Dylan Maria, Jason Morgan, Phil Sedalis and Mike Shannon have been named to the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 4 First Team, as voted on by the American Baseball Coaches Association of America.  The Profs are now eligible for ABCA All-America honors which will be announced on May 30.  

The five Profs were also named to the D3baseball.com All-Region 4 Team, with Cannon being chosen to the first team, Sedalis earning second-team honors and Maria, Morgan, and Shannon being named to the third team.  

Cannon (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), the senior second baseman, was the Profs’ offensive leader this year with his team-best .387 batting average, 75 hits, 55 runs and 19 doubles to go along with a .619 slugging percentage. He was an All-Region Second Team selection in 2023 and was named to the All-NJAC First Team this season. Cannon became Rowan’s all-time leader in career doubles (59) and ranks third on the Profs’ list for career hits with 221.  

Maria (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) topped Rowan with 13 home runs and 52 RBI while he batted .348 on the year. It marks his first selection to the All-Region Team while he was an All-NJAC Second Team honoree this season. The team’s designated hitter in all 44 games, Maria also made eight appearances out of the bullpen, where he went 2-0 and recorded one save.  

Morgan (Logan Twp., NJ/Gloucester Catholic), a junior left fielder, ranked second on the team with a .384 batting average and 73 hits while posting four home runs. An All-Region selection for the first time, he was chosen to the All-NJAC Second Team. Morgan, who hit safely in all but five games, drove in 40 runs and scored 42 runs this year while posting a fielding percentage of .990.  

Sedalis (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford) claims a spot on the All-Region team for the second time as he hit. 340 with 53 runs, 14 doubles, six triples and nine home runs to tie with Cannon for the Profs’ lead in total bases (148). The junior centerfielder, who was an All-American in 2023, posted 22 multiple-hit games this year and tied Rowan record for triples in a career (14).  

Shannon (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional), a senior righthander, receives All-Region for the first time in his career. He was named the NJAC Pitcher of the Year as he led the conference with a 3-2 record and 0.89 ERA in league games. He topped the Profs with an 8-3 record and 69 strikeouts while holding the opponents to .235 batting average. Shannon, who had three complete games and one shutout, earned All-Conference honors for the second time with his selection to the All-NJAC First Team.  

Rowan concluded the season with a 29-15 record while making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals.
