Fireman Injured; Another Stabbing; 2 Hurt at Muslin Event; Cop Involved in Shooting

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 15, 2024)(CNBNews)--At approximately 1:45 am on Monday, April 8, 2024, Unit#1, a dark-colored Sedan driven by a 52-year-old male, collided with five legally parked vehicles while traveling eastbound on the 4700 block of Osage Avenue. PFD responded to the crash, and during their response, a firefighter attempted to prevent the male driver from fleeing, but the driver of Unit#1 drove over the firefighter's right foot. Eventually, Unit#1 stopped after colliding with the side of the Fire Truck. Both the driver of Unit#1 and the firefighter were transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition. The five legally parked vehicles have damages to the driver's side doors, bumper, and mirror. The fire truck has damage to the driver's side of the truck. 


On Tuesday, April 8, 2024, at approximately 9:29 am, 24th District officers responded to 28XX Kensington Ave inside a store and located an unidentified male in his late 20s to early 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The victim was transported to Temple Hospital by police where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:53 am. An individual has been taken into custody for further investigation which is ongoing with the Homicide Unit.


Stabbing Incident at 29th and Ridge Avenue: 


On April 10 At approximately 5:28 AM, this morning an unidentified male was stabbed in the chest at the intersection of N 29th Street and Ridge Avenue. He was transported to Temple University Hospital by police in stable condition. The scene was secured, and a person of interest was taken into custody for further investigation.  A weapon was recovered.


Double Shooting & Officer Involved Shooting

47th St & Wyalusing Ave


 On April 10, 2024, at approximately 2:26 PM, during an Eid al-Fitr celebration at the intersection of 47th and Wyalusing Avenue, gunfire erupted between two groups; leading to a 22-year-old Black male being struck in the stomach and a 15-year-old Black male being struck in the right ring finger. The 22-year-old male was transported to Presbyterian Hospital by Philadelphia Police and the 15-year-old male was transported to Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia (CHOP) by PFD medics. Both individuals are listed in stable condition.


A third individual, a 15-year-old Black male, armed with a firearm, was shot once in the left arm and once in the left leg by a Philadelphia Police Officer. He was quickly disarmed, and transported to Presbyterian Hospital by the discharging officer in stable condition. This individual is currently being held as a prisoner.


While officers were responding to this active shooting scene, a 15-year-old female was struck by a Philadelphia Police patrol wagon. She was  transported to CHOP by PFD medics, where she was listed in stable condition with a fractured leg. 


Four males and one female have been apprehended in connection to this incident, and five firearms have been recovered. The PPD Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting incident, and urges anyone with information to contact them directly at 215-686-3334 or to submit an anonymous tip at 215-686-TIPS (8477).


The discharging officer has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs and Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations. 


Shooting Incident in the 22nd District: 

On the evening of Wednesday, April 10, 2024, a shooting took place at the 2200 block of North Sydenham Street. A 36-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds once in the lower right back and once in the right buttocks. Officers transported the victim to Temple Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The scene was secured, no arrests have been made, and no weapon has been located at this time.



Fatal Crash in the 35th District: 

A tragic  crash occurred at the intersection of 5300 Ogontz Avenue and West Somerville Avenue on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, around 8:30pm. A 2001 Black Lexus GS-300, traveling north, veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a 2020 Red Nissan Versa traveling south. Following the collision, the Lexus's driver fled the scene. Emergency responders extracted the Nissan's occupants, taking the driver to AEMC in critical condition. The passenger, a 27-year-old male, was pronounced dead at AEMC at 8:36 pm. 


The Crash Investigation Division is actively investigating the incident.
