Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews CAMDEN CITY, NJ (March 11, 2024)(CNBNews)--Today's headlines should sound familiar to many, if not most, people of Gloucester City: "Firefighter equipment malfunctioned during a blaze in Camden, delaying efforts to rescue a person who died." There is no good news here but one might think that ONLY one person died in Camden, needlessly, where 20 years ago Gloucester City lost three little girls and three firemen, again needlessly. "The dwelling fire broke out on Newton Avenue. Several people escaped and told Engine Company Eight (firemen) the first-arriving unit - that a resident was trapped on the second floor. "Firefighters confined and extinguished the second-floor fire. But mechanical issues with their apparatus caused their hose to go limp several times, forcing personnel to retreat to the safety of the stairs, according to the Camden Fire Unions."* Another truck arrived and provided water, allowing Engine Company Eight (firemen)...

The Iditarod has now recorded its first (and so far only) dog death of the 2024 race. Hi, ADN Iditarod fans, The Iditarod has now recorded its first (and so far only) dog death of the 2024 race. Details are still emerging, but the Iditarod Trail Committee said that a 2-year-old dog named Bog, on rookie Isaac Teaford's team, collapsed about 200 feet from the checkpoint in Nulato on the Yukon River. A veterinarian approached the team and CPR was administered, according to race officials, but the dog died. A necropsy will be performed. Teaford scratched as a result of the dog's death. Under the Iditarod's Rule 42, in the event of a dog death, a musher may voluntarily scratch; they could be withdrawn from competition by race officials; or, if the race marshal determines the dog died due to an "unpreventable hazard," the musher could still be eligible to...

I have many concerns about the Postal Service’s proposed changes to the South Jersey distribution center and the potential impact it may have on delivery times, small businesses, and jobs across the region. From an electric bill or mail-in ballot to a lifesaving prescription or COVID-19 test, we all know how important timely mail delivery is to our daily lives. South Jerseyans deserve more transparency when USPS wants to make significant changes that will impact its services. Wednesday’s hearing, which was not advertised with adequate notice and is occurring during most people’s normal work hours, is also extremely concerning. Holding one hearing in only one town on the proposal is restrictive on the public’s ability to provide input and is a disservice to our community. The distribution center serves a large region in South Jersey and our community must be allowed to have sufficient input on the proposed changes. Through...
