Lions Smith Slams Door On Rams

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (February 11, 2024)--Gloucester City Lions upended crosstown rival Gloucester Catholic Rams 52 - 43 on Saturday, February 10, behind a total team effort. The Rams, with two recent huge wins over the Overbrook Rams and powerhouse Pitman, were surprised by the young Lions' shooting and tough defense by Kaden Harris and Kevin Wall.

 

Sophomore sharpshooter Keegan Cohan started the game with long-range shooting, scoring 11 early points, which were picked up by the air traffic control tower. The Rams pregame plans were quickly abandoned and any adjustments by the Rams coach's were quickly altered again by Lions Junior and on court leader Ryan James, who along with scoring 7 shut down Rams powerful Jack Mustaro on the defensive side.

Lions team effort continued as Mike Light, Jake Smith, and Kevin Wall banged the boards the entire 1st half, not allowing any 2nd chance points before the Lions walked off the court at halftime down 27 - 25 

Exciting second-half action continued at a fierce pace, with the third qtr ending with Lions leading 38 - 37.

It was a hectic final 8 minutes that saw the Lions win the quarter 14 - 6.

This is when Jake Smith, in under one minute, exclamated the game with a thundering dunk that brought the house to its feet.
