Jefferson Surgery Center Nurse Receives DAISY Award

Blackwood, NJ, resident Barbara Lamaina, BSN, RN, CAPA, CPEN, a Jefferson Health nurse based at its Washington Township Surgery Center, was recently honored with a Daisy Award for Nursing Excellence. “Her kindness, compassion and sincerity is contagious and promotes a positive work environment,” says Regional Chief Nursing Officer Diane Juliano.

Barb assisted a fellow RN with the discharge of a patient who was apprehensive about returning home without a nurse to assist with post-op care. Barb, overhearing the conversation, knew her co-worker needed support and volunteered to talk with the patient. After speaking with Barb, the patient felt confident and ready for discharge.

Part of an international program, DAISY Award winners are chosen by Jefferson’s NJ Recognition Committee following a review of nominations by patients, family members and colleagues. The nonprofit DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease.
