CC Public Works Employees Are Prepared for Winter Storm

(Lindenwold, NJ) – As a winter storm moves through the region Tuesday, the Camden County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is working to prepare the county’s 1,200 lane miles of road ahead of time. 6a00d8341bf7d953ef02788064ac64200d-800wi

“We have some snow and rain making its way through Camden County and our crews have been treating the roadways and removing snow since the first flakes began falling,” Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the DPW. “As always, we have our salt trucks loaded up, the plows are ready to go and our tree removal equipment is in working order to clear any debris that may result from this weather.”

Ongoing rain will begin to mix with some sleet pellets and wet flakes before transitioning to a moderate to heavy wet snow early mid-morning on Tuesday. The snow will lighten up around midday and quickly tapers off in the early afternoon. Temperatures warm up in the afternoon to around 40 making post storm cleanup more manageable. The breeze will help dry out some surfaces, though wet or slushy areas that remain will refreeze as temps drop into the upper 20s tonight. Overall, 2 to 4 inches of wet snow is expected.

“If you are traveling on the roadways today, please do so cautiously as there is always the possibility for slick spots,” Dyer said. “And our crews head out to treat the roads, remember to always leave at least six car lengths behind our vehicles while they work and move any cars off the street and into a driveway. Please also remember that it is illegal in New Jersey to plow or shovel snow from private property into roadways.”

At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 100 pieces of equipment are available to keep county roadways passable. When the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to salt and plow 1,200 lane miles of roadways across Camden County. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.

In the event the weather causes isolated power outages, please remember to immediately call your utility company so they can identify the location and coordinate crews to restore your power. Residents need to be extra cognizant of any power failures. Below are numbers and contact info for the two power providers in Camden County:
