When such incidents occur, consumers must understand their rights and options, especially if they decide to pursue legal action. In this article, we'll look into why consumers need to be aware of their rights when involved in a chemical exposure lawsuit and what steps they can take to protect themselves. Why Consumer Awareness Matters Consumer awareness plays a critical role in ensuring the protection of rights, particularly in cases of chemical exposure. Individuals have fundamental rights to safety and health, which must be upheld when dealing with hazardous substances. This awareness empowers individuals to assert their rights effectively and hold responsible parties accountable for their actions. Moreover, chemical exposure lawsuits often entail complex legal processes and technical details. Consumers need to grasp their rights to process these complexities and ensure fair treatment under the law. Summer Camp, Where Kids Discover Their Potential

By Andy Pritikin Life is hard. We know this, and yet so many children grow up sheltered from hardships, as their well-meaning parents unknowingly hold them back. In Adam Grant’s excellent new book, “Hidden Potential,” (2023) he lays out the importance of children working through tough situations, to build the character skills needed to be successful in life as an adult. Grant explains, “Character is often confused with personality, but personality is your basic instincts for how to think, feel, and act. Character is your capacity to prioritize your values over your instincts.” It’s more than having principles. Character is the learned ability to live by your principles- like fulfilling promises, standing up for what’s right, and managing your emotions. These are skills that Summer Camp nurtures, and great coaches and mentors cultivate. Helen Keller wrote, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” While I’m not advocating suffering, children do need to experience and learn from the inevitable challenges they encounter, in order to strengthen their inner-resilience. Kids are amazingly “Anti-Fragile,” meaning that when exposed to stress, they actually become... Read more →

Home Country: For Retirement You Need A Wife, & A TV Set

Written by Slim Randles Ran into Herb Collins the other day down by the school. He volunteers there, from time to time, helping kids with their math homework, and trying to recruit future members of The Great World of Business. He loved business, back in the days when he lived in the city and ran the pawn shop. For years now, ever since he hung up his jeweler’s loupe, he’s told us that there was an excitement to making the right deal. “It has to be right for the customer and for me, or it isn’t right at all,” Herb always says. “You can do that and make several people happy and earn a living. There’s no need to take unfair advantage of someone just to earn a living.” Our little town is a bit tame after city life, but it’s Herb’s wife’s home town and she wanted to come back here to live after he retired. So Herb turned to helping kids understand how wonderful business can be. He’s advised kids on the most effective way of delivering newspapers on their bicycles, he’s suggested advertising gimmicks for kids with summer lemonade stands, and he’s helped several boys market their... Commonwearth Court Rules Worker's Discrimination Lawsuit To Proceed

(The Center Square) A Commonwealth Court says that a Pennsylvania state worker’s discrimination claim against a public union should proceed. Tuesday's ruling means litigation in the Cambria Court of Common Pleas must resume two years after it was initially dismissed. The lawsuit, filed in May 2021 by the Fairness Center, accuses Council 13 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, or AFSCME, of violating its duty of fair representation when it negotiated an unfavorable settlement without the consent of the worker it involved, Penny Gustafson. Nathan McGrath, president and general counsel for the Fairness Center, said the court’s decision to remand the case “safeguards the right of public employees to sue a union when it abuses them, and we look forward to helping Penny hold AFSCME officials accountable in court.” “AFSCME officials thought they could get away with sabotaging Penny’s grievance and openly discriminating against her, but the Commonwealth Court has ensured her complaint will be heard,” he said. “Union officials didn’t want to represent our client because she wasn’t a union member, but Pennsylvania law says public-sector unions have a duty to fairly represent everyone in a bargaining union – members and nonmembers alike." Gustafson, a... Read more →

The 2024 Cardiac Rehab Persons of the Year Awards

The 2024 Cardiac Rehab Persons of 2024 It’s the leading cause of death in the United States - heart disease - with someone having a heart attack every 40 seconds. Statistics show approximately 1 in 5 of these patients will be readmitted to the hospital for a second cardiac event within five years - but this doesn’t have to be the case. Cardiac rehabilitation can’t change the past, but experts say, it can absolutely help to improve a patient’s future. Just ask this year’s Cardiac Rehab Persons of the Year Award winners - Chrisanne Belina and Lawrence Freirich. “Like so many people, my lifestyle led to my heart attack,” explains 65 year old Chrisanne. “While we all know we need to eat better and exercise more, we don’t always know how, that’s where cardiac rehabilitation makes all the difference.” Chrisanne, who had a history of hypertension, high cholesterol and was borderline diabetic, was determined to take advantage of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Hackensack University Medical Center where weeks prior, she received an emergent, lifesaving stent placement. “It was incredibly scary, I was airlifted to the hospital, I never want that to happen again which is why I worked with... Letters to the Ed; Time Has Come to Fix the Sweeper Problem in Gloucester City

Let’s stop trying to sweep the “sweeper problem” under the rug. Is it really necessary to sweep the high-density areas located on the west side of town once a week where citizens have “no driveways” to move their cars off the street? Many areas on the East Side of town have driveways and have their streets cleaned once a month! Does this make sense? We have more “No Parking” signs per block than in NYC. Many local communities post temporary “No Parking Signs” 6 to 8 months a year when they sweep their streets. Most of the housing stock west of the tracks are row homes built 70 or 80 yrs.’ ago when people had one car (if they were lucky)….Now the same house may have as many as three cars in the household. They have no place to park and end up paying fines every week! Could the Police Committee on council look into this problem and come up with a viable plan that would resolve this problem? Robert S. Bevan Former Gloucester City Mayor Read more →
