Sarah Nafeesa Muhammad, 81, of Camden City

Sarah Nafeesa Muhammad, 81, of Camden, NJ, was born March 28, 1942. She returned to Allah (swt) on January 20, 2024. Sarah was born and raised in Camden and was a student in the Camden school district. She loved sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and baking. Sarah born to Paul and Mary Ray. She was the 9th of 14 children. She retired from Strawbridge and Clothier after more than 20 years of employment. She eventually married Wilbert Jones (Chick)and from that union her only son Al-Mubdi (Deen) was born. Sarah adored her son beyond what is imaginable. She raised him with a good balance of love and discipline. She provided him with everything he needed in this life. Sarah had a stroke seven years ago and Al-Mubdi took on the task of caring for her until her passing.

Sarah reverted to Islam and it became her way of life. After divorcing, she married Wali Q Muhammad, The love of her life. They became very active in the Masjidun- Nur community. She was a pioneer of the community and Love to bake her infamous pound cake, sweet potato pie, and bean pie. Sarah and Wali remained married until he returned to Allah in 1992.

Sarah made sure to teach her grandchildren about Islam and the importance of being a good Muslim. Sarah was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, sister-in-law mother-in-law and friend. Her life will forever be cherished by her son, grandchildren, family and friends.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Wali Q Mohammed, mother Mary Ray, father Paul Ray, brothers Paul Ray, Anthony Ray, Edward Ray, Melvin Ray, Alfred Ray (Bilal), and James Ray (Hassan). 

Sarah is survived by her only son, Al-Mubdi Muhammad, 3 grandchildren Aiesha Muhammad, Jabril Muhammad, Zaakira Muhammad, her daughter-in-law Renee Muhammad. She leaves behind siblings Mary Holmes, William Ray, Queen Esther Doctor, Rosa Adkins, and Ruth Hamilton to cherish her memories.

Services were held at the  Masjidun-Nur Islamic Mosque, 1231 Mechanic Street, Camden, NJ. Interment  Morgan Cemetery, 1100 Cinnaminson Avenue, Cinnaminson, NJ.
