Philly PD "My Why" Recruitment Campaign

PHILADELPHIA- Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is excited to introduce "My Why," a unique addition to the PPD's police officer recruitment campaign that delves into the personal motivations of PPD officers. This initiative uncovers the unique motivations and aspirations behind each officer's decision to join the force. By displaying their dedication to serving the Philadelphia community, these videos offer a humanized view of law enforcement behind the badge.

The "My Why" campaign features the inspiring narratives of four dedicated PPD members: Corporal Jasmine Reilly, Officer Andrea Jordan, Sergeant Eric Gripp, and Officer Jessie West. Each story brings to light their individual points of entry within law enforcement and their personal motivations.

These videos represent the next phase of the current, dynamic multi-media marketing campaign to reach a wide audience, including young adults and those looking for a mid-career change. This effort is yielding remarkable results. As a direct outcome, in 2023, the PPD recruited and hired the largest and most diverse class since 2018, totaling 93 recruits. This represents a 343% increase from 2020. Additionally, the entire recruit classes at the Academy boasts a single year increase of 68%, in comparison to 2022. Plus, the PPD recently graduated and welcomed their first lateral class since 2016, comprising of 10 recruits. As another first in PPD history, starting this month, a new Academy class will enter every 6 weeks, compared to the previous schedule of 1 or 2 times per year. In addition, in an effort to increase recruit numbers and remove previous barriers, Governor Shapiro signed House Bill 863, which is being implemented during this current recruitment drive.

The PPD requests assistance to spread the word and inspire others to explore a career with the Philadelphia Police Department. This recruitment period ends on Friday, February 2, 2024 and there is a $2,000 sign-on bonus for all new laterals and police officer recruits.

Corporal Jasmine Reilly: A Tale of Resilience and Advocacy

Corporal Jasmine Reilly, a Philly native, has remained diligent to her education over the years, having recently earned her PhD in Forensic Psychology. As the only Latina in her family to pursue a career in law enforcement, she is an advocate for change and acknowledges the need for more female representation in policing. Motivated by her father, who was a victim of a violent attack that nearly cost him his life, Reilly’s 'why' is deeply rooted in her desire to be the change and fight for justice in her community.
