They were John D. West, 40, and James E. Sylvester, 30. The three children, all sisters, included a five-year-old and two twins, both three years old.
The following message was posted on the GCFD Facebook page.
Today is a great day at the GCFD.
Today, we celebrate a full circle moment here at the GCFD, as Firefighter Nick Stewart came in this morning for his first day as a Career Firefighter at the GCFD. For those that may not be aware, Nick is the son of Firefighter Thomas G. Stewart III, who made the ultimate sacrifice on July 4th, 2002, trying to rescue three little girls.
Nick is also a third-generation fireman, as his grandfather, Thomas G. Stewart Jr., also worked for the GCFD.
We are happy to have Nick as the newest member of our department and wish him nothing but the best in his new career at the GCFD. We know his dad would be proud.
