Ellen Thompson, of Cherry Hill, age 68
Monday, January 01, 2024
Life isn't about having amazing experiences. It's about making everyday experiences amazing. Talking on the phone for hours, dancing and singing around the house… Surviving is important but thriving is elegant. Ellen R. Thompson (nee Kushner) was simply the best. She was sweet, loyal, and was everyone’s best friend. She was deeply caring, supportive of those around her and found peace where the sky touched the sea, on the warm beach’s sand.
Seeing death as the end of life is just as seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean. Just as every salty tear returns to the sea, we're never too far gone for a memory. During the morning of Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Ellen’s tide abruptly slipped away from the sand after just 68 years and we turned her over from time to eternity. In the rising of the sun and it’s going down, we’ll remember her. In the blueness of the skies and warmth of summer, we’ll remember her. One day we will know how lucky we were to have known her love with wonder, not grief.
Ellen was born in Camden, spent her formative years in Oaklyn, and more recently made her home in Cherry Hill. She spent her professional life at Morgan, Bornstein & Morgan in Cherry HIll and her summer beach days in Ocean City and Cape May.
Ellen is the daughter of the late Esther (nee Spiegelford) Dugary and the late Milton Kushner. She leaves to cherish her warm afterglow, her dedicated partner Joseph “Mike” McGinnis, and his children Joseph & his wife Rachael McGinnis and Erin & her husband Kevin Flanigan. She is the proud “Bubby” of Jameson & Killian and will be deeply missed by her lifelong best friend Dawn & her husband Mike Molloy, her many beloved friends, and her niece and nephew Matthew and Britny.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to come together in tribute and thanksgiving. We’ll remember and celebrate on Wednesday morning between 9:30 and 11:00 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn where a remembrance ceremony will begin at 11:00 am. A graveside tribute and the witness of love’s reunion will immediately follow at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill where she’ll be laid to rest alongside her late son, James M. Patterson.
