Anthony Shields, age 22 of Camden City Guilty of Murder

Camden City, N.J. – A jury has convicted a Camden City man for the 2021 homicide of a 21-year-old man, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Antony Shields, 22, was found guilty on January 30, 2024, of first-degree Felony Murder, first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter, and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in connection to the death of Alex Fernandez.
The verdict was returned after a jury trial in Camden County Superior Court. Shields faces up to a life sentence.
On February 4, 2021, the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the 1700 block of South 7th Street in Camden for a shooting victim. The 21 year-old victim, Alex Fernandez of Philadelphia, was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. His death was ruled a Homicide and the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
The State was represented at trial by Assistant Prosecutor/Major Crimes Section Chief David Deitz of the Camden County Prosecutor’s office. The case was investigated by Senior Detective Jeremy Jankowski of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sentencing is currently scheduled for April 5, 2024.
