Xavier Rivera Charged with Fatal Shooting of 18-Year-Old Camden City Resident

Camden City, N.J.- A Camden City man has been arrested and charged for the fatal shooting of a man on October 18, 2023, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

On October 27, 2023, Xavier Rivera, 23, of Camden City, was charged in the fatal shooting of Jesus Manuel Ortiz-Hernandez, 18, of Camden City. Rivera was charged with first-degree Murder and weapons offenses.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at approximately 4:14 p.m., Camden County Police responded to the 2700 block of Hayes Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim at 22nd Street and River Road who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, and he was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:15 p.m. The male victim was identified as Jesus Manuel Ortiz-Hernandez.

Following an investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department, on November 30, 2023, Rivera was located and arrested in Winter Haven, Florida, by the U.S. Marshals Florida / Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force Tampa Division with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals NY / NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division. Rivera remains in Florida pending extradition.
