Three Woodbury Suspects Arrested:

One for Murder, One for Aggravated Assault on Cop, One for Attempted Robbery

WOODBURY, NJ (December 4, 2023)(CNBNews)--On Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, at approximately 1:22 AM, Woodbury City Police personnel were dispatched to Wing-Dickerson Park, located at 36 Carpenter Street, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, Woodbury Police located 21-year-old Ti’jere K. Jackson with a single gunshot wound to the chest.  Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene.  


Through timely and aggressive investigation, detectives from the Woodbury Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office identified the suspect in the shooting as a juvenile.  


At approximately 3:30 PM on December 2nd, members of the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force - Camden Division, Woodbury Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office stopped a vehicle in Woodbury Heights, after the operator of that vehicle was observed picking up the juvenile suspect.  During that stop, the driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old James Workman of Barrington, New Jersey, pointed a firearm at arresting officers and was taken into custody, along with the juvenile suspect from the Woodbury homicide. 


On December 3, 2023, an autopsy conducted by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Jackson’s manner of death as homicide with the cause being a fatal gunshot wound.   


The juvenile has been charged in relation to the homicide.  

James Workman has been charged with the following offenses and is being detained at the Salem County Correctional Facility:


Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer by pointing a firearm – 2C:12-1B(9)

Possession of a Ghost handgun – 2C:39-3D

Unlawful Possession Weapon – 2C:39-5B(1)

Possession of Weapon Unlawful Purpose – 2C:39-4A(1)

Possession of handgun with hollow point ammunition – 2C:39-3F(1)


An additional individual, 18-year-old Amante Black-Thompson of Woodbury was  charged with the following offense:


Criminal Attempted Robbery – 2C:5-2A(1)/2C:15-1A(3)


Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of their rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State Law.
