South Jersey CEO Named Among the 100 Most Influential People in Health Care

Virtua Health President and CEO Dennis W. Pullin earns spot
on prestigious Modern Healthcare list
(MARLTON, N.J., Dec. 4, 2023) After a year of milestones and major achievements, Virtua Health President and CEO Dennis W. Pullin, FACHE, is one of Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People for 2023. “The 2023 honorees on our 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list reflect the providers, insurers, technology firms, government leaders, investors and others who have made oversized contributions to the industry in the past year,” said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare. “Our ranked list honors the C-suite decision-makers using their clout and influence to lead their organizations and make sweeping changes that affect patient care.”
In September 2023, Modern Healthcare named Pullin a Top Innovator in the industry. A few months prior, the publication featured Virtua on its annual “Best Places to Work” list, based primarily on employee feedback.
By all measures, 2023 was a banner year for South Jersey’s largest health system. Highlights for Virtua included:
- Welcoming patients to its first-in-the-region proton therapy center in partnership with Penn Medicine.
- Deepening its academic affiliation with Rowan University, in part by formalizing the affiliation between the Virtua Medical Group provider network and Rowan Medicine.
- Achieving 35,000 all-time robotic surgeries, a record for South Jersey providers.
- Acquiring the prominent Reconstructive Orthopedics practice, which expanded Virtua’s roster of orthopedic clinicians to more than 90.
- Launching an innovative Mobile Health & Cancer Screening truck to increase health equity by improving access to free or low-cost mammograms, Pap tests for cervical cancer, colon and prostate screenings, and other services.
Additionally, Virtua Health earned distinctions for its brand and reputation, workplace culture, clinical care, and dedication to safety and patient outcomes.
October 2023 marked Pullin’s sixth year as Virtua’s top executive. Prior, he held leadership positions at health systems based in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and in his home state of Texas.
Pullin serves on the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees and is a past member of the New Jersey Hospital Association Board of Trustees. In 2021, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Hillenbrand Inc.
In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Pullin hosts the Here for Good podcast, including the “Inside Edition” series of one-to-one interviews with Virtua colleagues. He is also the author of several op-ed articles on topics ranging from violence prevention to food as medicine.
