Body Found in Philadelphia Warehouse is Escaped Prisoner Gino Hagenkotter

Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office Identifies Body
Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body of a male found inside a Philadelphia warehouse on December 11th, 2023, as escaped prisoner Gino Hagenkotter.
Hagenkotter, a 34-year-old inmate at Riverside Correctional Facility, escaped from custody while working a detail assignment in the orchard behind the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility (PICC) at 8201 State on November 30th, 2023.
On December 11th, 2023, at approximately 2:28 PM, Philadelphia Police responded to a report of a male that was discovered unresponsive in a warehouse located on the 11XX block of E. Venango Street.
Responding Philadelphia Fire Department Medics pronounced the male on location. A preliminary investigation of the scene revealed a broken air vent and a pushed-out fan, suggesting forced entry. Additionally, a ladder was found lying nearby.
The male did not have any identification on his person, and was subsequently transported to the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office as a “John Doe”.
On December 12th, 2023, the Philadelphia Police Department was notified by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office that the male was identified as Gino Hagenkotter via fingerprint analysis. Notifications were subsequently made to Mr. Hagenkotter’s family by the U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia, who were assisting in the search.
The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
