AC Boardwalk Fight Leads to Prison Term for Man Carrying Loaded Handgun

MAYS LANDING, NJ – On Thursday, December 21, 2023, Jahlil Walker, 24, from Vineland, NJ, was sentenced by the Honorable Dorothy Incarvito-Garrabrant, J.S.C., for second-degree possession of a handgun without a permit.  Walker was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison with a three-and-a-half-year term of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act.

On June 4, 2023, officers of Atlantic City Police Department were dispatched to the beach block of Arkansas Avenue in reference to a male with a handgun after surveillance captured two groups engaging in a fight on the Boardwalk where a male matching the description of Walker brandished a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the opposing group.

Police intercepted one of the groups leaving the altercation and commanded them to stop and place their hands against the wall.  One of the individuals was Walker.  Upon conducting a pat down of Walker, police located a handgun in his waistband loaded with a magazine containing sixteen rounds of ammunition.  The handgun had no serial number, rendering it a “ghost gun”.  After being placed under arrest, and prior to being placed in the police vehicle, an additional search of Walker yielded one round of ammunition in his front pocket, as well as fentanyl.  Walker did not have a permit to purchase or carry the firearm.

Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Jones represented the State in this matter.
