A Message from Congressman Norcross

I never thought that I would go from the construction site to Congress. Working as an electrician to support my family as a single father, I know firsthand what it means to balance work, family life, and a checkbook. I carry that experience with me every day as I fight to create good-paying jobs, expand educational opportunities, and ensure security in our nation and our neighborhoods.

As we reflect on 2023 and look forward to 2024, I wanted to give you an update on how I have delivered for our community this year.

Programs at the Philly Shipyard are vital for our national security and local workforce.

With international instability threatening our supply chains and pinching working families, I championed a historic ‘Buy American’ provision, which became law as part of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. This legislation will bolster our defense industrial base and strengthen our national security while creating American jobs and improving partnerships with our allies around the world.

I launched the Bipartisan Building Trades Caucus to be a voice in Congress for the hard-working men and women who work in construction.

I delivered major federal investments for our region, including for offshore wind and green hydrogen energy projects. Namely, I announced $750 million for the MACH 2 hydrogen hub which will create thousands of good-paying clean energy jobs for South Jerseyans.

Moreover, we are revitalizing our infrastructure with progress on an additional third lane on the AC expressway in Gloucester and Camden Counties and the opening of the ‘Missing Moves’ ramps to directly connect 295 South from 42 North. These projects will spur economic growth and development and cut back on gridlock traffic.

I am proud to have secured 15 local Community Project Funding awards totaling nearly $11 million to reduce hunger, support veterans, build parks in underserved communities, and more. I also delivered more than $165 million in federal funding to clean up toxic waste, fund education, and improve health care accessibility in South Jersey.

In addition to these vital projects and investments, I continued to fight for hard working Americans and seniors by championing legislation to improve retirement security for workers, expand apprenticeships, and increase access to mental health care and treatment for opioid use disorder.

In 2023, I announced over $6.5 million for South Jersey first responders.

I’m proud of the progress we have made in 2023 which is proof of the good we can do when we put people over politics. But there’s still work to be done in 2024, and a lot of it. I understand that families are struggling to make ends meet and I will continue to fight to make life more affordable.

We saw historically low unemployment rates, falling inflation, and rising wages throughout 2023, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which I was proud to vote for last year. We must capitalize on this momentum with policies that strengthen the economy from the bottom up and grow the middle class. We will also have to work harder than ever in 2024 to protect our democratic institutions, fight back against attacks on reproductive freedom, and stand against the dysfunction and extremism in Washington D.C.

Over 500 constituents attended my 6th annual Constituent Services Fair to get connected with federal resources and services.

It is an honor to serve and represent South Jersey in Congress, the place I have called home my entire life. This is your government, and I’m fighting every day to ensure it works for you. Our communities deserve their fair share, and I will stop at nothing to bring federal dollars back home and ensure that South Jersey remains a welcoming and prosperous place to live and work.

I wish you and your family a great holiday season, and I look forward to continuing to work together in 2024 to make South Jersey a better place for everyone.

Sincerely,
