By Jonathan Castillo Making sure your holiday packages and mail land on the right doorstep The holiday season can bring challenges. Shipping and mailing shouldn’t be one of them. Customers who ship and mail with the United States Postal Service® (USPS) can rest assured that they are using a reliable organization that values each package and mailpiece that passes through its network. USPS prepares for the holidays early, leveraging investments in its people, infrastructure, transportation, and technology — made possible by the Delivering for America plan – to ensure the smooth, timely delivery of seasonal mail and packages. One thing customers can do to help is to address their items properly. Let’s start with the recipient’s address. This is the central most important step, which should help you remember: the recipient’s address goes in the center. The recipient’s complete name goes on the first line. On the second line, indicate...

Maryland Fishing Report – November 29 Black sea bass, photo by Monty Hawkins. The weather is getting colder but if you bundle up there is plenty of good fishing to be had throughout Maryland. One example is fishing offshore of Ocean City, where anglers are catching limits of hefty black sea bass. In response to five years of below average spawning success for striped bass, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is submitting emergency regulations to help bolster the species’ spawning population. This includes extending closure dates during the 2024 season. These changes, if formally approved, will close the May trophy season. While recent research has suggested that environmental factors, such as warm winters and low water flows, are significant factors influencing spawning success, DNR scientists and fishery managers believe it is critical to take additional measures to reduce fishing mortality associated with harvest along with fish that die after...

When one of our neighbors is sly enough, or funny enough, or even … cruel enough to pull one over on the whole neighborhood, that’s something that should deserve a yee-haw or a “get ‘em sis!” Well, we’ve got one of them right here in Home Country. Sarah McKinley is a shy woman. No one knows much about her, even down at the hairdresser’s. And that seems to be okey-doke with Sarah. She’s like that. The big question on readers’ minds, however, is the sign she hung on one particular section that says, “Love, and Other Fiction.” This was the equivalent of slapping a literary glove across the moosh of every curious person in town, by which we mean all of us. It is a blessing when someone brings a new gossip...
