Operator of Stolen Vehicle Refused to Cooperate with Gloucester Township PD and Resists Arrest

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (October 6, 2023)--On October 3, 2023 at approximately 12:43 a.m. Gloucester Township Police were conducting proactive patrol operations in the area of the Cherrywood Homes development. While in the area officers observed a silver Nissan that was reported stolen from a neighboring town.  A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Blackwood Clementon Road where the driver, later identified as Linda Johnson, refused to follow officers’ directions, rolled up the windows, and would not exit the stolen vehicle.

Officers talked to the driver for over 45 minutes in an effort to de-escalate the situation and have her surrender peacefully to police. Eventually officers broke out the window and continued to negotiate with the driver to cooperate.  In an attempt to take the accused safely into custody, officers used a less lethal Pepperball Launching System to introduce a chemical agent into the interior of the vehicle that was on the roadway impacting traffic.  This allowed officers time to safely gain compliance and remove the driver from the stolen vehicle where she was taken into custody.   There were no injuries to the driver or any police officers.

The accused, Linda Johnson, was charged with Resisting Arrest (Disorderly Persons Offense) and Receiving Stolen Property (3rd Degree) and released pending her court appearance.

Arrest: Linda Johnson 55-year-old female, 500 Block of Broadacres Drive, Clementon NJ 08021
