Route 42 Northbound Lane Closures
Friday, October 13, 2023
(Trenton) – Lane closures on Route 42 northbound are scheduled for tonight as a project to repair the deck on the Route 42 Bridge over Blackwood Railroad Trail advances in Blackwood, Camden County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, October 13 until 7 a.m., Saturday, October 14, NJDOT’s contractor, South State Inc., is scheduled to close lanes on the bridge over Blackwood Railroad Trail to restripe the roadway to implement a traffic shift. The work will start with a single left lane closure at 8 p.m., and a second lane will be closed at 9 p.m., with work moving to the right as it progresses. At least one lane will be maintained during construction.
By 7 a.m. Saturday, October 14, traffic on Route 42 northbound will be shifted to the left onto the temporary median, and construction barrier will be placed in the right lane to facilitate the demolition and reconstruction of the northbound bridge deck. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through the spring 2024.
The $21.3 million state-funded project will remove and replace the existing Route 42 Bridges over Blackwood Railroad Trail. In addition to constructing retaining walls, the project will extend and widen lanes, and add lighting. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2024.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
