Dave Devine, a former Gloucester City resident and a Gloucester High alumnus, Class of '76, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in Georgia last Saturday night, September 23.
According to his brother Gary, Dave was driving his Harley Davidson when he hit something in the road. As a result, he went over the motorcycle handlebars and traveled 50 feet before hitting a tree. He suffered five broken ribs, a crushed pelvis, many broken teeth, a damaged hip, and a large laceration on the back of his back leg.
From his hospital bed Dave told his daughter Desiree the worst pain he ever felt was when the surgeons removed gravel and dirt from his leg wound. Dave underwent five hours of surgery on Sunday, the day after the accident. His oxygen and blood pressure were low, so they postponed his next surgery until yesterday, Thursday. He underwent nine hours of surgery to reconstruct his pelvis.
He moved to Georgia to be near his daughter, his son-in-law, and his grandchildren. Dave retired from the New Castle County Police Department, Delaware, in 2013.
His family is requesting prayers from his relatives, friends, and others to help him get through this ordeal.
