It's just as crucial to keep track of your company's finances as it is to attract new clients and serve existing ones. If you're like most small business owners, though, bookkeeping and money management aren't your strong suits. If you avoid these seven frequent small company money blunders, you can stay ahead of the game. The most difficult duty a small business owner takes on is generally handling the company's finances. The reasons are numerous, but most small business owners lack a background in business finance and, at least in the beginning, are more concerned with bringing in new business and providing excellent customer service than with record keeping and financial planning. As a result, many entrepreneurs toil away at their enterprises for lengthy periods of time with only mediocre results to show for their efforts. Others absolutely fail. by Slim Randles It was just one of those crazy mix-ups, you know. Like when one thing goes wrong, it triggers another thing that goes wrong and that sets off a multiplicity of crash-and-burns that are remembered long after people are dead and nations fall to Visigoths and such. That’s what happened with our buddy, Dud. You see, he was there at a time when something was needed, and he stepped forward and assumed the role. It was the high school band, of course. We love them. There aren’t that many of them, but they’re great kids and try hard, and Mr. Garcia has really whipped them into something that can carry a tune. Every honk and wheeze was special to us. So when the planets lined up the wrong direction and Sagittarius was in the outhouse or something, Dud was there. It began when Mr. Garcia got called away...

With each passing year, the number of franchises yet to get their hands on the MLS Cup grows smaller and smaller. Los Angeles FC’s maiden success in 2022 means that there are now just four teams – Philadelphia Union, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, and FC Dallas – who have played in the MLS Cup without getting their hands on the silverware. DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed a new state record blue catfish, the fourth state record of the year for the 2023 Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament. The 42.5-inch, 48-pound, 7.2-ounce blue catfish was caught on cut bait earlier this month by Chris Andrews of Bridgeville, while fishing in the Nanticoke River on his personal boat at night with friends who helped him land his massive catch. “Fishing is a big part of my life – I go out about three times a week, so I guess you’d say I’m an avid fisherman,” said Andrews, noting it was just another quiet end of summer evening on the water – until he felt a strong tug on his line. “I knew it was a big one, just not how big. (Blackwood, NJ) – On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners joined with law enforcement, public officials, members of the Black Horse Pike Regional School District, and members of the county’s Addiction Awareness Task Force to distribute Naloxone kits to school bus drivers at Triton Regional High School. This is part of the county’s ongoing initiative to make the overdose reversal medication, also known as Narcan, more accessible. “Naloxone is a critical tool in our battle against the opioid and overdose epidemic,” said Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “We need to keep this medicine on hand in every corner of our community because you never know when you are going to need it. Unfortunately, we know that it is possible to lose a child to overdose in a school setting – and most recently on a school bus – so distributing these kits and training school staff is a measure we must...
