REMINDER! Route 45/Gateway Blvd., Closed Until Tuesday, August 15

(Trenton) – Route 45/Gateway Boulevard is scheduled to be closed and detoured tomorrow between Hazel Avenue and Park Avenue in Westville, Gloucester County.

Beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, August 10, until 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, Route 45/Gateway Boulevard will be closed in both directions between Hazel Avenue and Park Avenue to remove the existing railroad crossing. The closure is necessary to reconstruct the crossing and approaches. Access will be maintained for local traffic. The following detours will be in place:

Route 45/Gateway Boulevard northbound detour:

  • Motorists on Route 45/North Broad Street northbound will be directed to turn left onto Hessian Avenue/CR 642, which is about a mile before the closure
  • Turn right onto Crown Point Road
  • Keep left to take the ramp to Route 130 northbound/Westville/Gloucester, which becomes Route 45/Station Avenue northbound

Route 45/Gateway Boulevard southbound detour:

  • Motorists on Route 45/Gateway Boulevard southbound will be directed to stay right to take the ramp to Route 130/Crown Point Road southbound, which is before the closure
  • Keep right to take the ramp to Junction CR 642/National Park
  • Turn left onto Hessian Avenue/CR 642, back to Route 45/North Broad Street

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and on the Facebook page.
