Robert J. Battersby of Haddon Hts., formerly of Gloucester City, GHS Alum, Air Force Veteran

On June 7, 2023, Robert J. Battersby passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born and raised in Screenshot 2023-07-28 at 23.16.54 Gloucester City, he graduated from Gloucester High School and went on to serve in the US Air Force for two years until his honorable discharge.  He graduated from the NJ Police Academy in 1960 and became a police officer in Haddon Heights that same year.  He retired from the Haddon Heights Police Department in 1988 as Police Chief after 29 years of service to the Borough.  During his service in the department, he received his associate's degree in Police Science from Camden County College in 1972 and his bachelor's degree in Law and Justice from Glassboro State College in 1974.  He also attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA in 1974.  Following his retirement from the department, Bob worked for the Camden County Sheriff's Department for 5 years until 1993 and then for the Camden County Pollution Control Financing Authority for seven years until 2000.    


           Bob was involved in many organizations in law enforcement including PBA Local #30 where he was past president, the NJ Police Chief's Association where he was a member of the executive board, the Camden County Police Chief's Association where he was the past vice president and past president, the NJ Chapter of the National FBI Association, the Camden County Municipal Detectives Association where he was past president, the Camden County Hero Scholarship 200 Club where he was past president as well as several other associations.  He was also a member of the Haddon Heights Fire Department, the Haddon Heights Rotary and the Haddon Heights Drug Commission.


           Bob is lovingly survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Brenda (nee Trainor); his son, Robert W. Battersby (Wife, Ronnie); his grandsons, Adam Battersby (Girlfriend, Cailyn) and Michael Battersby as well as 3 nephews and numerous great nieces and great-nephews.


           Funeral arrangements under the direction of the HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights.  Interment was private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
