Xylazine is a veterinary tranquilizer not approved for human use which is increasingly prevalent in the illicit opioid supply in New Jersey. The Department of Health is issuing this alert following increasing reports of xylazine-involved conditions throughout the state, including severe wounds, xylazine-involved overdose deaths, and heavy sedation following use.
