HOME COUNTRY: My Squirrel's Life Depends On It!

BY Slim Randles Doc isn’t even sure why he did it. For days afterwards, people would talk about it, then smile and shake their heads and just say “Oh, that Doc…” The whole thing came up on the spur of the moment. Doc and Mrs. Doc were planning to go out of town for a few days and needed several hundred dollars in cash, so Doc dropped by the bank to take it out. He drew Ardis Richardson as his teller, after he wound his way through the bank’s roped rat maze, and told her how much he needed. Then, on an impulse, he leaned forward and whispered, “Ardis, I need that in small, unmarked bills, please.” “Unmarked, Doc?” “My squirrel’s life depends on it.” Ardis’s mouth dropped open. That should have stopped Doc, but it didn’t. “They said if I wanted to see him alive again, the bills would... Read more →

The Story Within The Story:

The "I" Word Is Back Again

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Columnist Once again, if you follow the news, you are hearing, "let's impeach President Biden." Politicians have been mentioning this for some time. The question is whether the average person understands what impeachment is, keeping in mind that students learn very little about civics in school. "Let us develop the resources of our land, call forth its powers, build up its institutions, promote all its great interests, and see whether we also, in our day and generation, may not perform something worthy to be remembered." Quote by Daniel Webster that is inscribed in the marble wall directly behind the Speaker’s chair in the House chamber. An impeachment alone does not "fire" a President or other federal employee. An impeachment is much like a Grand Jury hearing. It is an inquiry by the members of the House of Representatives to determine if there is enough evidence to... Read more →
