Crime Tips Lead AC Police to Handgun and Illegal Drugs

 

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (JULY 4, 2023)(CNBNEWS)The Atlantic City Police Department arrested three individuals and recovered a handgun and drugs while targeting specific locations of frequent complaints from residents and business owners.

On June 29, 2023, Detectives Christopher Dodson, Eric Evans, Alberto Valles, and Kevin Perez under the supervisor of Sergeant Darrin Lorady were assigned to patrol specific areas of the city to combat the distribution of narcotics and suppress violent crime. Crime

At 8:19 PM, the detectives were conducting surveillance on an apartment complex in the first block of south Iowa Avenue.  They observed Anthony Savage and Kassandra Beebe engaging in the distribution of cocaine from the front porch.  Detectives converged on Savage after they saw him holding cocaine in his hand.  Once seeing the detectives, Savage dropped the cocaine to the ground.  He was arrested and the cocaine recovered.  Beebe, who had entered the building, returned and was found in possession of several drugs. 

A court ordered search warrant was later served at Beebe’s residence in the same apartment building.  Detectives recovered more than 24 grams of methamphetamine, 52 bags of heroin, three grams of cocaine, and prescription pills.

At 9:49 PM, the detectives were conducting surveillance in the 500 block of New York Avenue when they observed Syhier Young clutching a handgun in his waistband.  Young continued to walk around the area and the detectives began to approach.  Upon seeing the detectives, Young immediately turned from the direction he was heading and began to walk away from the detectives. 

Young turned a corner behind a building and the detectives were able to quickly gain ground.  When the detectives turned the corner, they saw Young holding and throwing the handgun before he fled.  The detectives arrested Young after a short pursuit and recovered the loaded handgun.  Young was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

 

ARRESTED:  Kassandra Beebe, 33, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Possession of CDS (four counts), possession of CDS with intent to distribute (four counts), possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone (four counts), possession of CDS paraphernalia, and loitering to distribute CDS.

 

ARRESTED:  Anthony Savage, 38, of Pleasantville, NJ. 

CHARGES:  Possession of CDS and possession of CDS with intent to distribute.

Beebe and Savage were released on a summons with a future court date.

 

ARRESTED:  Syhier Young, 19, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possess of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

Young was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The public is reminded that charges are mere allegations, and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
