Jefferson Health's campuses in Cherry Hill, Stratford and Washington Township have achieved Magnet® Redesignation. In 2018, Jefferson Health’s three New Jersey hospitals became the first in Camden and Gloucester counties to receive Magnet designation.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program recognizes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence, based on professionalism, teamwork and patient care. It is considered the most prestigious and coveted recognition a hospital can achieve for nursing excellence.
Jefferson's designation includes the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center - Washington Township; and its Surgery Center in Washington Township.
“We are so proud of our outstanding nursing team for their commitment to excellence and for continually providing quality, compassionate care to our community,” says Regional Chief Nursing Officer Helene Burns, DNP, RN, NEA-BC.
Maintaining its ANCC Magnet Recognition® status reaffirms Jefferson Health – NJ’s nursing team as one of the most advanced and exceptional organizations in the country. This redesignation comes following a document submission in August 2022. ANCC appraisers then came to Jefferson NJ in April 2023 for a rigorous four-day appraisal visit with more than 500 members of the nursing staff, as well as over 100 others, including executives, ancillary support personnel and community members. The appraisers’ goal was to “verify, clarify and amplify” what was written in the documents.
Currently, only 608 hospitals worldwide have received ANCC Magnet Recognition® status, and less than 10% of U.S. hospitals hold this designation.
“Over the past two years, our nurses have been faced with some of the toughest challenges of their careers, and they are still at the top of their game,” said Burns. “This is a very hard-earned recognition.”
Once an organization achieves Magnet status, it must reapply every four years and go through a lengthy data collection and review process to maintain its designation. For more information about the ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program®, visit www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet.
