Alfred F French, III of Bellmawr; Korean War Vet, Brooklawn Legion and Bellmawr VFW Member
Monday, June 12, 2023
What you put out in the world comes back to you. Alfred F. French, III began and filled each day with a smile. It was a sign of joy and the light in the window of his face. Al put friendly, outgoing generosity and consideration for everyone into our world. He carried it all with a jovial, whistling melody and quick-whit dad jokes.
After a lifetime that filled 92 years with sports, music faith, and honor our laughter hushed when Alfred passed away in his home on Monday, June 5, 2023.
Mr. French was born in the cradle of Liberty, Philadelphia, PA, and had spent his formative years there. His home has contributed to the manpower of our nation, fighting to uphold the American ideals of freedom as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the conclusion of the Korean War. Al made his career working as a computer programmer for the Federal Defense Center in Philadelphia and had been a member of the Brooklawn American Legion Post 72 as well as the Bellmawr VFW Post 9563. As a young parent, Mr. French coached little league and always made time for his children and grandchildren. He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Witchita Falls, TX, Council 1473.
Mr. French was established in love and filled his wife's arms the same way he filled her dreams for 69 years. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Margie Ruth (nee Woods) French. Family is like music. Some high notes, some low notes but always a good song. We don't kindly stop for death, but he had stopped for them. Mr. French was predeceased by his sons; the late Vincent and the late James Lee French. Al is survived by his children; Alfred J., IV. & his wife Laurie, Mary & her husband Stephen Smith, Jane Marie & her husband Frank Maile and Christian French. Mr. French is the proud grandfather of; Stephen, Jr., Kevin, Alexzander, Alyssa, Frankie, Jr., and great-grandfather of; Alphonse, Liam, and Eden.
Relatives, friends, neighbors, and legionnaires are invited to gather with the French family. We’ll come together to take comfort in each other and share our heartfelt stories on Tuesday morning between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 700 Powell St. Gloucester City where a remembrance ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm.
