THE COST OF LOSING WEIGHT

Everyone, even the size 2s, put on weight during the pandemic.  The problem is that once we were released from the prison of own homes and got back to normal, the pounds didn't come off.  What to do?

The size 2s can probably survive with a few extra pounds but how about the former size 18s who are now size 22?  The pounds just seem to stick where they are.  There are companies out there who are more than willing to help - at a cost, of course.

Regardless which celebrities endorse which weight control product, in the long run it just doesn't seem to work.  Take Weight Watchers for example.  The company was bought by Oprah Winfrey and she changed the name to WW.  That didn't seem to work either.  The company lost 20% of its income in the last three months.  To make up for the money Oprah added a telemed company to her package.  Doesn't every hospital and acute care facility have telemed programs?  Even Dr. Phil has a company - Doctors on Demand.  This is not a promising idea.

Jenny Craig has been in business for 40 years with 500 franchises.  Jenny has now pulled the plug in Canada and the United States.  It is still in business in Australia and New Zealand.  In Canada the company reported $350 million in revenues and $323 million in debt.  They have not released their numbers in the United States bankruptcy court yet.

The weight loss business was thought to be recession-proof in years past but they can't survive this recession.  Look for more weight loss companies to "trip down."
