Altercation in Atlantic City Leads to Stabbing, 4 Charged

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (April 28, 2023)(CNBNews)--On April 19, 2023, an altercation outside of a residence led to two individuals being stabbed and a canine losing its life.  

 

At 4:12 AM, Officers were dispatched to Trenton Terrace for a report of a group in a fight. Officers arrived to find two individuals, Joseph Dixon and Deontay Mickey-Evans, bleeding from stab wounds. Dixon was also tending to a canine bleeding heavily from apparent stab wounds.  

 

Officers quickly learned that the altercation began on the street between Dixon, Mickey-Evans and a third individual, Angel Hernandez-Contreras. The altercation quickly escalated when Angel Hernandez-Contreras threatened Dixon, Mickey-Evans and a female, Jordan Banner, with a knife. It was determined that Banner then retrieved her canine from inside her residence while Dixon retrieved a hammer, to thwart the knife attack.

 

The ensuing physical altercation resulted in Dixon and Mickey-Evans being stabbed by Hernandez-Contreras. During the altercation, Hernandez-Contreras also stabbed the canine that died as a result. Dixon, Mickey-Evans and Hernandez-Contreras were all transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of injuries sustained in the altercation. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

 

An investigation conducted by responding officers and Detectives of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Section led to charges being filed against all individuals.

 

ARRESTED: Angel Hernandez-Contreras, 28, of Atlantic City.

 

CHARGES: Aggravated assault (2 counts), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and cruelty to animals.

 

ARRESTED:  Joseph Dixon, 33, of Atlantic City.

 

CHARGES: Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

 

ARRESTED: Jordan Banner, 33, of Atlantic City.

 

CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon and cruelty to animals.

 

ARRESTED: Deontay Mickey-Evans, 21, of Willingboro, NJ.

 

CHARGES: Aggravated assault.

 

All arrested individuals were released on summonses pending future court dates. The public is reminded that charges are mere allegations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
