A 9th Inning Walk-Off Hit Batsman Led York to Win Over Profs

 
 
 
 
YORK, PA (April 18, 2023)--– Although Rowan held the early lead on home runs by Chris Curcio and Ryan Murphy, York rallied to defeat the #18 Profs, 5-4, on a walk-off hit batsman in the bottom of the ninth, in non-conference baseball action today. Rowan drops to 21-9 with York improving to 17-14.

York loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two hits, a fielder's choice and two walks and had the tying and winning runs forced when Michael Tinneney and Andrew Santarpia was hit by a pitch.
 
Curcio hit his first home run of the year, with a three-run shot in the second inning. After singles by Murphy and Jason Morgan, Curcio sent one out that brought home the two Profs and gave Rowan a quick 3-0 lead. Curcio, Murphy and Tyler Cannon each had two hits for Rowan, which totaled nine.
 
The Profs added one more in the third as Murphy connected on his fourth home run of the season, with a solo shot to take a 4-0 lead.
 
York got one back in the bottom of that inning and started its comeback in the fifth with three runs on two hits and one Rowan error, including an RBI single by Elzinga, as the Spartans closed to within 4-3.
 
Rowan starter Braden Waller went 4.1 innings and was replace by Mike Shannon and Matt Choi, with Christian Bascunan (0-1) being saddled with the loss after working the ninth inning.
 
Rowan returns to NJAC action with single games against Rutgers-Camden on Thursday and Friday. The Profs will host the Scarlet Raptors on Thursday and play in Camden on Friday.
