Friday, March 24, 2023
With its quiet country lanes, stunning coastal paths, picturesque villages, and stretches of rolling hills and tranquil planes, Kent serves as the perfect setting for sporting activities, which is why numerous cycling events are held throughout the county each year. 2023 is going to be no different, with a series of amazing tours already lined up for cyclists of all abilities to enjoy.
So, if you want to bask in the full beauty of South East England and get some healthy and fun exercise along the way, here are some of the most important cycling events in Kent that will take you through the county on two wheels.
Big East Kent Bike Ride
This year’s edition of the Big East Kent Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 02 April, having Betteshanger Park in Deal as a starting point. Suited for road bikes, the event offers participants two routes: the 100 km sportive ride or the 50 km leisure ride. Both itineraries are lined up with beautiful views of the Kent countryside and coastline, so you’ll get to enjoy some stunning sceneries regardless of your cycling prowess.
Big West Kent Bike Ride
The Big West Kent Bike Ride is the sister event of the Big East Kent Bike Ride, offering just as much fun and thrill for those who want to test their cycling abilities and explore the stunning countryside of Kent. The tour is scheduled to take place on Sunday 14 May, starting at the Cyclopark in Gravesend. Just like the previous event, there are two routes available, of 50 and 100 km, that will take participants through North West Kent and the Hoo Peninsula.
RIDE Castle
An already iconic road bike cycling event, RIDE Castle is back in 2023, setting off from the ruins of Tonbridge Castle. The date of the event was pushed back this year to October 1st, but the ride is going to be just as exciting, whether you choose the 200, 162, 112, or 53 km route. Make sure to be well prepared as the tour includes some tough climbs and join the Action Medical Research team if you want to ride for a good cause.
Chase the Sun UK South Ride
Chase the Sun UK South Ride is a cycling event that, just as the name implies, will keep you in the saddle from dusk till dawn. Taking place on Saturday 24th of June, this year’s edition of the ride departs in Minster and stretches over 330 km of green pastures and charming villages. This is a non-competitive event, meaning there are no medals or winners, just the pure joy of riding your bike into the sunset.
The Circuit of Kent Cyclo Sportive
The Circuit of Kent Cyclo Sportive is an event with a long tradition behind it, and one of the longest-running circuits of this kind in the UK, being held for the first time in 1997. More than two decades later, the tour is going to kick off in Sevenoaks on Sunday 03 September. There’s only one route that covers 130 km of some of the most scenic panoramas in the Kent countryside.
There’s no shortage of fun and exciting
