Boston Professor: Trump, A 'Master Political Performer'

SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR: Trump is a ‘master political performer’ in announcing the possible indictment

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team appears to be preparing for the possibility of an indictment related to an alleged hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, raising questions about how legal action could impact his 2024 presidential candidacy.

Ken Cosgrove, professor of political science at Suffolk University, is an expert on political marketing and communication.

Cosgrove’s latest book, “Donald Trump and the Branding of the American Presidency: The President of Segments,” argues Trump’s 2016 election and presidency represent the triumph of marketing, branding and segmentation in American politics, and considers the impact of this new age of political marketing through an analysis of the Trump phenomenon and its implications for future elections.

Cosgrove says:

“Donald Trump once again showed why he is a master political performer. Trump put the news out there in a way that shielded him from being asked questions and at the same time promoted his social media platform. Trump began to position the Manhattan District Attorney as just another politically motivated denizen of the left-wing swamp. This is similar to his actions after the release of the Mueller Report.

“Trump will use this as a marketing and fundraising vehicle for his campaign. His pitch will be something along the lines of this being further evidence that the left, the swamp, and the Democrats will go to any length to destroy him no matter how unprecedented, and that the best way to thwart them will be to support his campaign. Trump will very likely try to use this indictment as a way to de-legitimize more serious accusations being made against him in Georgia and at the federal level.
