Active Shooter Alert at Lower Cape May Regional HS Determined to be False

Lower Township, NJ - On January 23, 2023 Cape May County Dispatch received a phone call reporting an active shooter at the Lower Cape May Regional High School. An immediate multi-agency response was initiated. Active Shooter protocols were swiftly activated by the school, law enforcement officers, as well as additional first responders. Ultimately the report was determined to be false.
A thorough follow-up investigation was conducted by the Lower Township Police Department who identified the caller. The caller was identified as a 29 year old female who resides in Philadelphia, PA. Coordination was made with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Officer, who opined to charge the subject on a summons with False Public Alarms, a violation of New Jersey Title 2C:33-3a, a crime of the third degree. The subject is now pending further adjudication.
