Daytime closures for pothole repairs, overnight closures for guiderail repairs

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced daytime lane closures on I-295 for pothole repairs tomorrow. In addition, I-295 southbound to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound, as well as Route 42 northbound, are scheduled to be closed tomorrow night for emergency guiderail repairs as the Direct Connect and Missing Moves projects advance in Bellmawr, Camden County. 

Daytime Pothole Repairs on I-295

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, December 29 there will be lane closures on I-295 northbound and southbound near the Almonesson Avenue overpass (mile post 25.5) to repair potholes in Camden County. Work will be done as part of a moving operation, and typically one lane will be closed at a time while repairs are being made.

Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down, and move over if possible to give crews room to work safely.

Overnight Work

I-295 southbound ramp/Al-Jo’s Curve closure

The I-295 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound, also known as Al-Jo's Curve, is scheduled to be closed beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, December 29, until 5 a.m. Friday, December 30. The right lane on I-295 southbound after Exit 28/Route 168 also will be closed. These closures will allow the contractor to repair the guiderail and attenuator at Exit 26. All motorists traveling on I-295 southbound will be directed to stay left onto Exit 26. The following detour will be in place overnight:

I-295 southbound to Route 42 southbound/I-295 southbound detour:

• Motorists traveling on I-295 southbound to Route 42 southbound will be directed to exit left at Exit 26/I-76 westbound
• Take I-76 westbound to Exit 2/I-676 northbound
• Take I-676 northbound to Exit 1/Collings Avenue
• Turn right onto Collings Avenue
• Turn left onto I-676 southbound which becomes I-76 eastbound
• Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1A/I-295 southbound

Route 42 northbound closure

The two right lanes on Route 42 northbound are scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday, December 29 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 30 just past Exit 14/Leaf Avenue, and Exit 1B to I-295 northbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured to repair the guiderail and attenuator at the exit. The following detour will be in place overnight:

Route 42 north Exit 1B ramp to I-295 north detour:

• Motorists traveling on Route 42 northbound wishing to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound  

• Take I-76 westbound to Exit 2/I-676 northbound
• Take I-676 northbound to Exit 1/Collings Avenue
• Turn right onto Collings Avenue
• Turn left onto I-676 southbound which becomes I-76 eastbound
• Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1B/I-295 northbound

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
