Effective January 1, 2023, Deputy Chief McKendry will retire from the Gloucester Township Police Department after 24 years of honorable service as a Gloucester Township Police Officer.
DC McKendry previously served from 1989-1993 in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. DC McKendry also served in the United States Army New Jersey National Guard from 1995-1999, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was hired as a Gloucester Township Police Officer on January 25, 1999. DC McKendry served as a Patrol Officer, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on September 4, 2004 and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau serving a Deputy Platoon Commander. On February 1, 2010 he was assigned a Negotiator on the Crisis Negotiations Team. On February 23, 2010 DC McKendry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, where he served as a Patrol Bureau Platoon Commander. On July 15, 2015, he was appointed as the Commander of the Crisis Negotiations Team. On February 16, 2011, DC McKendry was assigned as the Traffic Services Bureau Commander, where he served until being assigned as the Investigations Bureau Commander on July 8, 2015. On August 22, 2016, DC McKendry was promoted to Captain of Police, and was assigned as the Administrative Services Division Commander. In 2017, he graduated from the 270th Session of the FBI National Academy. On December 6, 2021, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police.
