GENEVA, NY – Rowan’s Kristiina Castagnola, Bridget Guinan and Julia Patrone have been named to the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America First Team. Castagnola earns the honor for the third time and it marks the first All-American selections for Guinan and Patrone, while giving the Profs their most First-Team honorees in one season.
Castagnola becomes just the second in the program’s history to be chosen a three-time All-American, matching Marisa Marini (2013, 2014 2015), and is the second Prof to be named to the All-America First Team twice, as Rowan Hall of Famer Moriah Holmstrom achieved that in 1999 and 2000.
Guinan, a senior, and Patrone, a sophomore, each earn the distinction for the first time and their recognition gives Rowan a total of 47 All-Americans in the field hockey program’s history.
Castagnola (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) closed out her celebrated career with a personal best 21 goals and 10 assists as she led third-ranked Rowan to its second consecutive NCAA Semifinal appearance and a second straight NJAC Championship. The midfielder was named the 2022 NFHCA Region IV Player of the Year, marking her second award, and was a four-time selection to the All-Region Team, while earning a spot on the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team in back-to-back seasons.
A two-time NJAC Midfielder of the Year and All-Conference honoree for four years, Castagnola is Rowan’s all-time leading scorer with 163 points (66 goals and 31 assists) in 87 career games.
Guinan (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) was steady in the midfield for the Profs, while registering 10 goals and four assists, and three game-winning goals. She was named to the All-Region Team for the third time, earning First-Team honors twice, and received her third consecutive selection to the NJAC All-Conference First Team.
The senior, who was also named to the 2022 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team, closed out her career as one of Rowan’s top scorers with 128 career points (51 goals, 26 assists) to rank fifth on the all-time list.
Patrone (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp., NJ) was the top scorer for the Profs and led the New Jersey Athletic Conference, as she totaled 59 points with 24 goals and 11 assists. The forward recorded four hat tricks this season and netted nine game-winning goals. She earned All-Region honors for the second time but made her first appearance on the All-Region First Team.
For her career, Patrone has already accounted for 102 points with 43 goals and 16 assists to rank 12th all-time.
Rowan, which went 21-2 and was ranked among the nation’s top three teams all season, tied with Middlebury and TCNJ for the most selections on this year’s All-America Team.
