GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (September 21, 2022)--Gloucester City is extremely fortunate to have a fully staffed 24/7 Fire Department. The Gloucester City Fire Department (GCFD) covers 2.6 square miles, 11,256 residents, and is responsible for responding to emergencies in residential dwellings, commercial buildings, industrial facilities and shipping port facilities not only in Gloucester City but also provides automatic-mutual aid response to surrounding communities.

GCFD is led by Chief Michael Hagan with 23 firefighters reporting to him. GCFD’s obvious function is that of fire suppression, but they are also charged with numerous other prevention and protection tasks. These tasks include, but are not limited to emergency medical response, rescue-special operations, code enforcement-fire safety inspections, public education. and apparatus/equipment maintenance.

GCFD is in good hands with Chief Michael Hagan. Chief Hagan is a 25-year career firefighter with the City of Gloucester. Chief Hagan is a third-generation firefighter following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Chief Hagan has been instrumental in enhancing the Department since his tenure as Chief.

One of the many enhancements and accomplishments with his leadership skills, the GCFD improved its ISO Fire Insurance Rating from a 5 to a 3. An ISO fire rating is a score provided to fire departments that reflects how prepared a community is for fires. He has also been able to enhance the services that the GCFD provides in the areas fire.
