Barrington D. Martin II
OUR America's National Director - Eastern Region
In his inaugural address less than two years ago, he said “we can see each other not as adversaries but as neighbors. We can treat each other with dignity and respect. We can join forces, stop the shouting, and lower the temperature. For without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and fury.”

Listen to him now. Division is at the cornerstone of his message, and that cornerstone sits on a foundation of bitterness and fury.
Biden’s latest primetime speech on the “Battle for the Soul of the Nation” was startling. It contained some of the most divisive language Americans have ever heard from a president. He said Maga Republicans – a phrase he and his administration refuse to define – are a group that “threatens the very foundations of our Republic.” Keep in mind that this speech was not a response to anything. He simply decided to hold a speech, in disturbing red lighting, to cast Americans as enemies of one another. For political gain.
As a group committed to finding the common ground that will unite our country, this was incredibly discouraging.
With that speech, Biden has set the tone for how other politicians – on both sides of the aisle – will carry themselves in the upcoming midterm elections. Tensions are simmering around the country, and we don’t need a leader who is going to turn up the heat.
Too often, politicians – Biden and others – try to tear us further apart. Let’s commit ourselves to be an example of how to bring people together in our families and communities. It’s not too late to change course for America. |
