Regarding public concerns from the recent hazardous chemical leak that occurred yesterday in East Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, NJ that affected our Gloucester Township community, as well as surrounding counties, the following information was been provided by Gloucester County Emergency Management regarding the chemical odor people may be smelling:
The chemical, Lubrizol-1389 (Zinc alkyl dithiophosphate), expels a nuisance odor that may linger for some time; however, Haz-Mat Technicians have monitored & tested the air quality of the immediate incident scene and as well as all surrounding areas that have experienced the odor. The results of the testing have confirmed that there is no risk to the public.
Air monitoring will continue throughout the duration of the event. The nuisance odor explained above is still lingering this morning in areas of Gloucester Township, Camden County. Please DO NOT call 911 unless you have AN EMERGENCY.
