Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Columnist Today in Pennsylvania, President Joe Biden announced that his administration will allocate $37.5 Billion to refund the police and fight crime. What crime? Here in South Jersey, I can't name any community which defunded its police force. I don't know of any community which saw riots, burning buildings or city takeover (do you remember the City of Chas?) So why should we have to pay to rebuild other cities' police forces and building? My first question to all these cities who defunded their police forces - what did you do with the money which had been budgeted for policing? How did you spend that money? Then, if you want non-rioting taxpayers to rebuild your cities, how do you determine the dollar amount? Surely, there was insurance coverage somewhere. How much and what was done with that money? Our government is too quick to hand out...

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Columnist It was announced this week on the Haddonfield Police Department's Facebook site that a state grant of $75,000 had been received. The purpose of the grant is to study the feasibility of combining the Fire and Emergency Medical Services of Haddonfield, Haddon Heights and Barrington. It is surprising that Haddonfield would want/need to decrease their property taxes. After all, Haddonfield is rich, isn't it? Well, the last year for which tax rates are available is 2019. At that time the average property tax rate for Haddonfield (which is 37th highest dollar amount of the 565 municipalities in New Jersey) is 3.125% which amounts to $16,121 a year. Haddon Heights' rate was 3.330% and Barrington was the highest rate of the three of at 4.400%. As an aside, Gloucester City's tax rate that year was 4.498%. When looking at property taxes, remember that the majority of...

Some highly populated cities, including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C, have been included in Tuesday's risk area. Overall, more than 30 million people live in the population area that forecasters have highlighted for severe weather danger on Tuesday. AccuWeather Global Weather Center – August 30, 2022 – AccuWeather meteorologists say that tens of millions of residents in the Northeast will be at risk of severe weather on Tuesday. The weather will turn combustible in the region as a large pocket of warm and humid air collides with an approaching cold front. This same front caused wind damage around Chicago on Monday and knocked out power to more than 600,000 customers when storms rolled through Michigan. A few storms produced wind damage on Monday as far east as western portions of New York and Pennsylvania. The threat will expand and spread eastward on Tuesday, according to AccuWeather meteorologists. Severe storms will...

By Catholic League president Bill Donohue Blacks need not fear right-wing white supremacists—there are too few of these crazies to matter—but they need to fear well-educated white liberals. They have become the real white supremacists. CNBNews Guest Opinion If we define white supremacists as white persons who believe in the inherent inferiority of blacks, members of the Klan come to mind. But white liberals should also come to mind. That is because they don't believe blacks have the ability to raise themselves up by themselves. White liberals have given up on equal opportunity. This explains why they are constantly dreaming up ways to mandate equality. In short, they have given up on blacks. On June 1, the California Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans issued its Interim Report. It is the most comprehensive summary of liberal white supremacy available. Here are some of their proposals....

A wrongful conviction ruins many lives, yet it happens at an alarming rate. When the wrong person is incarcerated for a crime they did not commit, it has a ripple effect, not just on them, but the victim and the involved families, and it shakes the strength of the whole justice system. Yet, it still happens and there are common reasons why which are going to be explored further in this post. What is a Wrongful Conviction? When a crime is solved and a perpetrator is found, the case is often classed as closed. However, with wrongful convictions, a person or people are arrested and sentenced, yet they contest the sentencing. They can often remain in prison for many years before their case is reopened if it even gets to the stage of being reviewed. While some convictions are overturned in light of new evidence or proven wrongful practice, others...

Widespread thunderstorms are expected in southern Canada, the interior Northeast, and much of the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic. AccuWeather Global Weather Center – August 29, 2022 – Mother Nature has given little relief from the summery conditions for those in the Northeast this month. But now, forecasters say that a noticeable change to the weather could be on the way before the final weekend of summer. From west to east early in the week, temperatures will be on the rise, followed by a surge of humidity. Temperatures in places from Pittsburgh and Detroit to New York City and Boston will top out in the upper 80s Monday. AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures are expected to sneak into the upper 90s. "The unseasonably warm, humid air in place early this week can set the stage for a dramatic clash of air masses," explained AccuWeather Meteorologist Mary Gilbert. CHAPTER 22 William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNewsnet GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (August 29, 2022)-CNBNewsnet--In May, we noticed construction work at a GAF property, Charles and Water Streets. The GAF Scale House once stood on the property where the work was occurring. Pine logs used to make various mill products were also stored on the same plot. And a bar and a diner were located there, too. After seeing the construction, we asked several city officials if they knew anything about site improvements in that vicinity; they answered no. Instead of receiving the documents we requested, the Housing Office gave us the construction permit issued to GAF for the 2017 power plant demolition. The power plant was located on the empty lot on the other side of the street from the new business that had just opened. The NIH-supported study also found past-month vaping levels rebound after early pandemic drop. Marijuana and hallucinogen use in the past year reported by young adults 19 to 30 years old increased significantly in 2021 compared to five and 10 years ago, reaching historic highs in this age group since 1988, according to the Monitoring the Future (MTF) panel study. Rates of past-month nicotine vaping, which have been gradually increasing in young adults for the past four years, also continued their general upward trend in 2021, despite leveling off in 2020. Past-month marijuana vaping, which had significantly decreased in 2020, rebounded to pre-pandemic levels in 2021. Alcohol remains the most used substance among adults in the study, though past-year, past-month, and daily drinking have been decreasing over the past decade. Binge drinking (five or more drinks in a row in the past two weeks) rebounded in 2021 from a historic low...

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Columnist Did you know the original purpose of the Secret Service Agency was to protect our money supply? The agency was started by Abraham Lincoln who apparently never thought a well-trained and well-armed security force to protect the President was a necessity. Move forward 157 years and most people think the Secret Service Agency's purpose as only protecting the government officials. But the "Feds" are very much still in the money business. I suspect it will be long after the promised December 31, 2022, date before anything will happen as many states, banks, and people who paid off their loans will probably file suits in federal court. This program is only popular with current and recently-graduated students. People who paid off their loans don't think it is fair that the newer students get a pass. There are tons of parents who saved for years to put their kids through college. They don't like the free pass either. Then, how about all the farmers, truck drivers, plumbers, etc. who never went to college. Should they have to pay for someone else's bill? Again, I suspect a lot of lawsuits. Already, just 36 hours after the...
