We Can Foundation Annual Fundraiser, June 19th, Pine Grove Fire Hall, Gloucester City
Tuesday, June 07, 2022
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (CNBNewsnet)--The We Can Foundation, headed by longtime Gloucester City native George Merryfield is holding a fundraiser on Sunday, June 19 at the Pine Grove Fire Hall, 827 Jersey Avenue, Gloucester City. The organization was founded to help the homeless and those struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol. The money raised will be used to assist with the general cost, along with paying for a third recovery house that has been opened, and for a used vehicle, a tool so critical to their program that without one, there will be no program.
Merryfield released the following prepared statement.
We Can Foundation is a not-for profit charity that works in the community helping the homeless struggling with addiction to get off the streets and into detox and residential treatment center and sober living recovery houses.
We Can Foundation exists because of the magnitude of the addiction and overdose crisis. We have been working 24/7, doing everything from finding available space in facilities, transporting people to these facilities as many are not in the immediate vicinity and those looking for help frequently have no way to travel to distant programs that have space, to locating those living on the streets whose families are unable to find/contact, responding to assistance requests from local hospitals for overdose patients, providing water, snacks and clothing, to supporting those in recovery after they complete the available treatments to enable them to provide their sobriety.
We Can Foundation is supported 100 percent through donation of time, money and materials, and by raising funds from the community itself. We currently receive no local, state, or federal funding.
To that end, We Can Foundation is currently planning and organizing a fundraiser on June 19 to assist with the general cost, and specifically to get a better, more reliable vehicle, a tool so critical our program that without one, there will be no program.
The fundraiser will be on an afternoon of food, music and sharing of stories of those in recovery. This event is for all ages. In addition, we hope to have a “Silent Auction” of assorted baskets.
To that end we are looking for donations from the local businesses, goods, services, gift certificates, and are hoping that you would be able and willing to contribute. Contributions are tax deductible, and We Can Foundation will provide a receipt for
anything contributed.
We Can Foundation truly appreciates your time and consideration.
