A New Jersey medical marijuanas card is given to applicants who go through the New Jersey Medicinal Marijuana Program, founded in 2013. Thus, before applying for an N.J. medicinal marijuana card, you must be a resident of New Jersey for at least six months. If you are already a patient and marijuana is on your prescription given by your doctor, you will not need an application or certification from the program. The process is effortless, with only five main steps. Here is a short guide for the applicants to get a dispensary card in New Jersey.

Proof of Residence

Applicants will need to show proof of New Jersey residency. To do so, you must provide any document from the mail received in the last three months. The following are some of the given examples:

  • Utility bills
  • Bank statements
  • Credit card statements
  • Pay stubs
  • Auto insurance card for a vehicle registered in your name
  • Or any other proof of your residency

If you are a non-citizen, you must verify the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service that shows your residencies within the state or country. The same applies to applicants with permanent residency. In addition, you will need to go through at least six months of residency in New Jersey. Other than that,  you must also be at least 18 years old before applying for your marijuana card.

Proof of Identity

Now, this step is pretty easy. All applicants will need to provide primary proof of identity. Examples include:

  • New Jersey driver's license
  • Other state photo identification card
  • Military identification card
  • Passport

Although, if you don't have the following given items available, you can use a secondary form of identification. Such as a social security card, birth certificate, or Medicare card.

Suppose you are applying in person at the Division of Security and Hazardous Materials (DSHM). You will be introduced to a state police officer who will confirm your application. If self-certifying, you can print, complete, and sign the self-certification form and attach it to your application.

A Certification from your Primary Care Physician

This certification is one of the requirements from your doctor, who initially prescribed the drug to you. You will not need a certification for your N.J. dispensary application if you are a current patient. Otherwise, this is an important step in applying for an application. The physician must certify that you are a "qualified patient" concerning marijuana use. Moreover, you must have a "serious medical condition" that would reduce by using marijuana.

It is important to note that the medical record should state when you are allowed to use medical marijuana, which is usually given for one year. Thus, the program will not accept diagnosis certificates, prescriptions, or referrals from doctors who are not registered with the program.

Transportation

Applicants must provide a copy of their valid New Jersey driver's license. This can only use for identification purposes and not for any other reason.

All New Jersey dispensaries will need some form of transportation to get the marijuana medicine. You can use a car as your mode of transport, but you must own it. Furthermore, marijuana card holders cannot be passengers in any vehicle when transporting marijuana.

Payment for the Application Process

Lastly, the application process cost depends on each applicant's needs. If you cannot apply online, you will be required to submit your application and payment by mail.

You will have to pay a $100 fee upon submitting your application, covering administration costs and a background check. The background check is 100% complimentary if you provide an acceptable form of identification. The application will also request your phone number and email address. They may also ask other personal questions to ensure that the information you give is yours.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, medical marijuana effectively treats different medical conditions and is available in New Jersey. These conditions include glaucoma, arthritis, many sclerosis, and many others.
