Several ramps to be closed overnight for drainage work

 

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced several overnight ramp closures on Route 70 at the I-295 interchange and at the Cuthbert Boulevard interchange, tonight and tomorrow night, as the Route 70 corridor improvement project advances in Cherry Hill, Camden County.

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 11 until 6 a.m. Thursday, May 12, NJDOT’s contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction, Co., is scheduled to close and detour the Cuthbert Boulevard southbound ramp to Route 70 westbound and the Route 70 eastbound ramp to Cuthbert Boulevard southbound for drainage pipe installation.

On Thursday, May 12 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, May 13, three ramps will be closed and detoured overnight at the Route 70 and I-295 interchange for drainage work. Only one ramp will be closed at a time, starting with the Route 70 eastbound to I-295 southbound ramp, followed by the I-295 southbound to Route 70 westbound ramp, and finishing with the Route 70 westbound to I-295 northbound ramp. The following detours will be in place:

Wednesday, May 11 – Route 70 and Cuthbert Boulevard Interchange

Cuthbert Boulevard southbound to Route 70 eastbound detour

  • Motorists on Cuthbert Boulevard southbound wishing to take the ramp to Route 70 eastbound will be directed to continue on Cuthbert Boulevard southbound
  • Turn right onto North Park Drive
  • Turn right onto Donahue Avenue
  • Turn right onto Route 70 eastbound

Route 70 eastbound to Cuthbert Boulevard southbound detour

  • Motorists on Route 70 eastbound wishing to take the ramp to Cuthbert Boulevard southbound will be directed to continue on Route 70 eastbound
  • Turn right onto South Cornell Avenue
  • Turn right onto Park Boulevard
  • Turn left onto Cuthbert Boulevard southbound

 

Thursday, May 12 – Route 70 and I-295 Interchange

Route 70 eastbound ramp to I-295 southbound detour

  • Motorists on Route 70 eastbound wishing to take the ramp to I-295 southbound will be directed to continue on Route 70 eastbound
  • Turn right onto Marlkress Road
  • Turn left into Old Cuthbert Road
  • Turn left onto Route 70 westbound
  • Take the ramp to I-295 southbound

I-295 southbound ramp to Route 70 westbound detour

  • Motorists on I-295 southbound wishing to take Exit 34B to Route 70 West/Cherry Hill/Camden will be directed to continue on I-295 southbound
  • Take Exit 34A to Route 70 East/Marlton
  • Take first exit to I-295 North
  • Take Exit 34B to Route 70 West/Cherry Hill/Camden

Route 70 westbound ramp to I-295 northbound detour

  • Motorists on Route 70 westbound wishing to take the ramp to I-295 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 70 westbound
  • Take the Covered Bridge Road U-turn
  • Turn left onto Route 70 eastbound
  • Take the ramp to I-295 North/Mt Holly/Trenton

 

The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the N. Maple Ave loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
